Anxiety can be like cancer, it eats deep into a person, Tolani’s emotions have been ravaged, and she has been living on the edge. There are no physical signs like biting of nails or shaking of feet, but Tolani lives in constant fear of what people will think of her. What if she didn’t greet her boss loud enough, what if her mother-in-law expects her to visit daily? Thoughts like this consume her mind, leaving little room for productivity.
Anxiety is gradual, it grows on you, and you start being self-conscious. Do people like my dress? Do I look shabby? The thoughts build up, “She didn’t greet me today, did I offend her?” “I think they expect more from me, I should do better.”
Please note, that the occurrence of thoughts like this periodically is important for our daily improvements and checks and balances in our lives. But a frequent reoccurrence of such thoughts is your first hint of the presence of anxiety.
If you have a life vision or goal, you would need to lay aside every weight. You can’t run far while carrying 10 to 50 kilograms of weight. You won’t go anywhere with that even. You need to reevaluate once in a while to ensure you are on track, but you need more focus and consistency to gain ground.
Tolani in our story is a daughter, a wife, and a mother, whose life goal can easily fade into the background because she is trying to be in the right standing with all men.
